are two distinct John Deere 5020's. The first is the ‘New Generation’
5020 that JD produced at it’s Waterloo plant in Iowa from 1965 up
until 1972. The other is the JD 5020 series that comprises of the 5620,
5720 and 5820 compact tractors. The first part of the article will cover
the the original JD 5020. It enjoyed a long production run, but unfortunately
was not as popular as other models at the time and sold just less than
13,000 units when you account for both the standard and row crop versions
of this tractor. It is powered by a powerful John Deere designed diesel
engine. This 6 cylinder, 8.7 liter, natural aspiration engine provides
an impressive 141 horsepower to 4×2 2WD chassis via a partially
synchronized transmission which provides the JD 5020 with 8 speeds going
forward and 2 in reverse.
